In Valle d'Aosta, you can find the Gran San Bernardo Valley, also known as "Coumba Freida" due to the freezing wind that blows during the winter.
During the carnival, the local residents participate in the celebration, trying to make the season less sad and cold.
The landzette, typical masks of the area, visit people's homes, singing, dancing, drinking, and reenacting the passage of the Napoleonic troops through the Great St. Bernard Pass.
The costumes used are an allegorical representation of the French soldiers' uniforms that sowed terror among the population in May 1800.
In this photographic work, the aim is not just to document the festival but to analyze the social aspects and the relationship between man and nature.
The project was carried out from 2013 to 2019.
